My Style
I am a journalistic photographer at heart! What does that mean, you ask? I LOVE capturing the special moments in your life that naturally happen. I’m not all about forced poses and studio set-up. Just let me follow you around for a time and I will be sure to freeze in time all the warm smiles, hearty laughs, emotional tears, and comfy hugs! I love to work with natural light and do lots of fun shoots outside.
But what if I am into posing, you ask? Not a problem! Let me know any shots that you just gotta have, and we’ll make them happen. After all, these photos are all about you and for YOU! My goal is for the photos to become timeless pieces you’ll treasure for years to come.
Location
All my photography sessions take place on-location. What that means is totally up to you. Want me to come to your house and record your memories on your home turf? Not a problem! Or perhaps you want me to accompany you on a family outing to the park, the zoo, gardens, whatever…
We can make visits to downtown areas, sunlit forests, sunflower fields, railroad crossings, you name it. Just be listening for the whistle of the train so we can be sure to get out of the way first!

What to Wear
Wear clothes that scream your personality! Feel free to play around with bright colors, funky prints, and extra layers; and don’t forget the accessories, like a scarf, jacket, or hat. Just be sure to try to stay in comparable color schemes if you are having a picture taken with a significant other or family members. We don’t want you to look too hodgepodge. :)
What to Bring
Props are highly encouraged!! Do you have a love affair with any of the following: Mac notebooks, vintage cameras, musical instruments, your iPhone, giant lollipops, stuffed animals, warm fuzzy blankets, fedora hats, etc? Or perhaps you have a high heel, handbags, or sunglass fetish? Bring them on! We are all about reflecting your personality and capturing what’s most important to you in your photos...
Do I travel outside of the Memphis and surrounding areas?
Sure do! Travel fees are assessed on an individual basis, depending on mileage and whether or not an overnight stay/air travel is needed. Just give us a buzz at susan@designsbyprater.com and we’ll be happy to give you a quote.
Booking and Payment Information
You will want to book your session about a month out to make sure I have that time open in my calendar. If it’s a last minute idea, don’t hesitate to contact me to see if I have an open spot anyways.
Your session fee is due at the time of booking. This payment covers the time and talent of the photographer, as well as whatever else might be included in your particular portrait package. Additional prints and products are available for purchase from our online proofing and ordering site.
For payments, we accept cash, personal checks, and credit cards via Paypal and our online proofing site.
What to Expect?
I’ll arrive a little bit early to scout out fun spots and be ready to shoot upon your arrival. You will have my time and talent for the amount of time covered in the session you selected. But don’t worry, if we are having a blast and we want to get just a few more pictures, that is A-OK! I won’t have one of those therapist’s watches that dings when your time is up!
I will post sneak peeks of your images on my blog in the next few days, and your final edited images will appear on my online proofing and ordering site within 2 weeks of your session. Your online gallery will then stay up for 90 days for you, your friends, and family to make your selections and purchases. I’ll even post some of my favorite photos in an album on my Facebook page and tag you in them, too.
Print Collections
Our print collections offer savings over our A La Carte prices and give you an additional 10% discount on any item ordered outside of your collection.
Rep Cards
Once your photos go live on our proofing site, I will send you approximately 50 custom cards with your name & photo to pass out to all your friends and family members. It will also serve as a coupon for a complimentary 8x10 print if they choose to book a session with us. The more people you refer to us that book and complete a photo session, the more prints and products you will earn FREE from your session! Ask us for more details...
