Hello there!

My photo
My name is Susan, and Designs by Prater is what you could call my creative outlet that pulls together my photography, art and graphic design endeavors! The most important thing you should know about me is that my life revolves around my God and my Savior Jesus Christ, my family (especially my husband Todd, son JD, and puppy Lexie), family and friends. Other than that, I am pretty much obsessed with photography, Coca-Cola, and the color green (and all shades of green for that matter, especially teal). I love sports but cannot play them worth a lick. I would not trade my time as a college student at Mississippi State for anything in the world. The friendships and memories made there will stick with me forever...Hail State and Go Dogs! And I am very picky about my chocolate chip cookies, grilled cheeses, and shaved ice (gotta be SnoBiz watermelon flavor).

Designs by Prater wedding photography

Before we go any further, I want you to think 5 years down the road and ask yourself "What do I love the most about the photos from my wedding?!" Is it that you have a gorgeous storybook album that holds precious memories like your friends helping you out with your make-up, your sister helping you put on your jewelry, and your mom crying as you put on your wedding dress? Do you envision that storybook album also holding images of your flower girl looking up at you dreaming of the day she will look just as beautiful in her own wedding gown? And what about those images from the reception of your father giving your groom one last word of advice before you jet out to begin your new life together?

If you've answered yes to all of those questions, then you have come to the right place! As a journalistic wedding photographer, I love to capture all the natural moments that give your heart the most warmth when you look back on them years later more so than a whole lot of posed formal shots. While I am DEFINITELY committed to getting all the group and family shots we all want on our wedding day, I love taking as many of them as possible in more casual and relaxed settings, i.e. just outside the church on a pretty day. SO...if this all sounds great to you, please keep reading!! :)

Our wedding collections begin at $1300 and include a pre-wedding consultation, TWO photographers, and at least 6 hours of coverage on your wedding day. Each wedding collection also includes password-protected online proofing and ordering for 90 days, a set of 4x6 proofs of edited images from the big day, and at least a $200 print credit. Have something very specific in mind, though? We'd love to work with you to create a collection especially designed for your wedding!

Add-ons are available for any collection and include the following: any FOCUS session (engagement, bridal, after-wed, or trash the dress), photo guest book, flushmount wedding albums, parent albums, a signature mat with frame for guests to sign at the reception, mounted or canvas prints from any FOCUS session to have for reception, canvas gallery wraps, mini photo books for the bridal party, additional wedding day coverage, and more.

Whatever the collection you choose, just be sure to ask the 10-years-from-now version of yourself "What do I wish I would have included in my wedding collection that I do not have?" I say this because it is less expensive to include items in your collection on the front end than adding them a la carte after the wedding. And it's definitely not possible to go and re-live your engagement period and wedding day once it's all over. This special time in your life flies by all too fast, and your wedding photos are what you'll always remember this time by!

Wedding coverage for smaller, more intimate ceremonies Monday - Friday nights is also available at a rate of $250 per hour and includes a set of 4x6 proofs of edited images in an Image Preview Box, password-protected online proofing/ordering, and 10% off prints/products from the a la carte menu.

Contact DBP to inquire about your wedding date and request our 2010 Wedding Collections information packet and FAQs. Thanks again for your interest in DBP...we'd love to capture all the special moments of your engagement and wedding!

Starkvegas, here we come!

We're headed to Starkville this weekend to help some dear friends of ours move into their new house! Such exciting times for them. :) And they were so incredible to help us make the move from Starkville to Memphis a year and a half ago, that we are incredibly glad to be able to return the favor now.

SOOOOO...I'm thinking that while we are going to be in Starkville, I wonder if anyone would like to set up a last minute MINI shoot for sometime Saturday or Sunday - maybe in Downtown Starkville, on the campus of Mississippi State University, your home,...!?! Here's the deal and it's good for this weekend only, February 14 or 15, 2009:

StarkVegas MINI Shoot- $50
- up to 45 minutes on location
- up to 5 people; each add'l person $10
- secure online proofing and ordering for 90 days

***But here's the best part! If you recommend someone else to DBP and they book a regular-priced photo shoot with me in 2009, you will get half of your session price back in the form of a $25 print credit to order more photos from your session! Recommend two people, and you'll get all of it back in the form of a $50 print credit.

Just give me a call on my cell at 901.651.6955 and I look forward to possibly hanging out with you in my beloved StarkVegas!!

wedding past : wright - brown

Two and a half years ago, the groom of this wedding stood beside my hubby as I walked down the aisle. A summer later, we were incredibly blessed to show our support of these two beautiful people on their special day, too! Since Todd was a groomsman and had to be there early for the bridal party pics, I got to scope out the sanctuary early and grab a great seat. I hope you enjoy these pics from their wedding!

boy wasn't playing when the minister said "you may now kiss your bride!" :)

the fiercest bridal toss i have ever witnessed...these girls don't joke around!

i'm not sure how anyone could miss the love shared between these two...you could just tell that he ABSOLUTELY ADORES his new bride...so sweet!

and I have to close it out with two of the cutest candids from the wedding...my hubby and the groom at the reception:

Check out the rest of the pics HERE at my Flickr site...take care and God bless :)

My I ♥ Faces contest entries

I recently stumbled upon a photography blog that is all about showcasing your photos that capture the fun memories through your subjects' FACES. The blog is called I ♥ Faces and is a place for photographers, amateur and professional alike, to share and learn from each other. This week's contest calls for entries themed "The Eyes Have It" for kids and adult photos and "Anything Goes" for pet photos.

So, being as obsessed with photography as I am, I decided to enter some of my photos this week!

Below are my submissions:

Kids - The Eyes Have It

Adults - The Eyes Have It

Pets - Anything Goes

Well, that should do it! Check back my blog and the I ♥ Faces blog this weekend to see if one of my photos was chosen as a winner. Have a great Monday and rest of the week...and get out there and grab your own snapshots of faces that say a thousand words without actually speaking a word. :)
