Hello there!

My photo
My name is Susan, and Designs by Prater is what you could call my creative outlet that pulls together my photography, art and graphic design endeavors! The most important thing you should know about me is that my life revolves around my God and my Savior Jesus Christ, my family (especially my husband Todd, son JD, and puppy Lexie), family and friends. Other than that, I am pretty much obsessed with photography, Coca-Cola, and the color green (and all shades of green for that matter, especially teal). I love sports but cannot play them worth a lick. I would not trade my time as a college student at Mississippi State for anything in the world. The friendships and memories made there will stick with me forever...Hail State and Go Dogs! And I am very picky about my chocolate chip cookies, grilled cheeses, and shaved ice (gotta be SnoBiz watermelon flavor).

focus : jennie

THE MLKJr holiday break gave Jennie and I a chance to expand her previous MINI session into a full-blown FOCUS session. I love spending time with this chica because we truly are kindred spirits! Having a love of photography just like my own, it was no surprise that her prop for the photo session was her own Canon camera.

Enjoy these snapshots from her FOCUS session and check out the rest of her pics here!

And yes, while I was taking pictures like this, she would be busy on her own snapping tons of pics of me!

This one ties for one of my fave shots of the day!

In her own photography, she loves to capture pictures of her subjects jumping in the air, so by no means were we going to let her photo shoot end without a jumping picture, too!

This has to be my other most face shot of the day!

And what photo session would be complete without trying to capture a little sun flare in a shot!?

Remember to go check out the rest of the photos from her shoot HERE! And if you are interested in a FOCUS session of your own, go check out all the details here and drop me a line!

wedding past : jue humphreys

These photos are from one of my favorite weddings in 2007! My college roommate for three years married a guy I graduated High School with...and it is all because of a $40 grocery bet I had with Cheryl...haha. It's a really funny story, but in all seriousness, it's because God blessed them by allowing their paths to cross in college. I was just blessed enough to have a front row seat!

This next picture is hilarious...it shows my girl's silliness with that knife swinging around about to meet Greg's chest...haha!

This picture shows 3 of my most favorite people in the world...and not just because they are fooling around with a camera!

And I loved this next picture so much, I couldn't decide whether it looked best B&W or color...so I did both!

The following images are my favorite moments captured at our friends' wedding a few years ago in Starkville. These two cats are both gorgeous people, inside and out, and Todd and I were blessed to have befriended them during our time at CrossPoint Church in Starkville. I had a blast catching up with many friends, new and old, at the wedding, and snatching these moments on digital film...enjoy!

I just had to grab a picture of this blue and brown cake...I love the color combination....just ask my poor hubby, Todd! :)

And I just LOVE the look on Amanda's face in these next two pictures...too cute!

I thought this was such a touching moment between a father and daughter!

mini : amanda and baby evan

Having the day off earlier this week for MLKJr Day, a fellow photog friend and I met up at a local coffee house to gibgab about photography and embark on another photo safari throughout Collierville. We were so excited to hear that two of our friends, Amanda and Evan, wanted to join us, as well.

So excited, in fact, that we recruited them for a mini photo session! They were quite the models, and we had a blast! Evan was so good for us and really enjoyed spending the afternoon with us despite the chilly temperatures and cameras in his face.

Enjoy a few pictures from their shoot, and don't forget to go check out the rest at my Flickr site.

Take care, and God bless! :)

wedding past : frederick - studdard

While I may be a "newbie" to the photography-as-a-business world, I am no newbie to photography in general. With a constant desire to learn more about photography each day and capture those perfect candid snapshots in life, I would often be found with my camera at my hip at all my friends' weddings, bridesmaid or not.

So, it's not a surprise at all that I now seek to enter the wedding photography business since the official launch of Designs by Prater. With that in mind, I decided that I should share some of my favorite memories from past weddings over the next week or so.

Today, we'll begin with the wedding of Becca and Jerry. And an interesting note about our trip to this wedding...it was one of my first dates with my hubby! Apparently, he enjoyed my company so much that he decided on THAT TRIP HOME that he was going to ask me to marry him just a few months later.

But I digress...back to the pictures we go! I hope they might make you smile as much as they have me...
