Hello there!

My photo
My name is Susan, and Designs by Prater is what you could call my creative outlet that pulls together my photography, art and graphic design endeavors! The most important thing you should know about me is that my life revolves around my God and my Savior Jesus Christ, my family (especially my husband Todd, son JD, and puppy Lexie), family and friends. Other than that, I am pretty much obsessed with photography, Coca-Cola, and the color green (and all shades of green for that matter, especially teal). I love sports but cannot play them worth a lick. I would not trade my time as a college student at Mississippi State for anything in the world. The friendships and memories made there will stick with me forever...Hail State and Go Dogs! And I am very picky about my chocolate chip cookies, grilled cheeses, and shaved ice (gotta be SnoBiz watermelon flavor).

You + Me = Helping Others

Because helping others is so important to me, I am joining several other photographers nationwide in donating a portion of all my session fees to non-profit organizations dedicated to improving the physical, emotional, and spiritual lives of others.

Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. - Colossians 3:12

When you book a portrait session with DBP, 10% of the session fee will go to one of the following charities:

Want to donate more? Click any charity to visit their website and donate NOW! Or visit my fundraising page to donate to Compassion International and track our giving status as we go...

Want to donate to another charity? Just drop me a line with the name of the charity and its web address, and I will look into adding it to the list.

"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'

Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'

The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'" Matthew 25:34-40

shadow : robertson wedding

While having the lovely honor of serving as a bridesmaid in this sweet couple's wedding, I had a front row seat to recording such wonderful memories on film, along with the help of my talented hubby and assistant photog. He did such a great job of snapping photos of the wedding while I was standing on stage. Who knew he had such the photographer's eye!?

The fabulous Jenny McNeill of Jenny M Photography was their wedding photog for the weekend, and I hope to do some second shooting for her at some of her future weddings. :) Check out her blog HERE!

Enjoy the pictures!

This last picture is of the surprise wedding proposal that happened when the bride tossed her bouquet to a groomsman's girlfriend. She was totally surprised and speechless...it was such a special moment to be a part of!

very mini : price family

Not to be outdone, the Price family wanted to get in on the mini-shoot action, too. And yes, they are in full-fledged Bama gear because we were mere hours away from the season's most heated showdown - the Iron Bowl. Here are a few faves from their shoot!

very mini : cagle family

The hubby and I joined the rest of the Prater clan after Thanksgiving in Decatur, AL, to celebrate his grandparents' 60th wedding anniversary and to exchange Christmas gifts with everyone else while we were all together. And as usual, the Cagles and I took this opportunity to have an impromptu photo shoot in hopes they might find their Christmas card photo in the bunch. Here are a few faves from the shoot!

mini : jennie

I had a great time with Jennie out on the town square not too long ago. She and I are kindred spirits, sharing not only some mutual friends but a love for photography as well. She and her husband, Landon, are in our small group at church. Here are a few pics from her Mini Session. Hope you love them, Jennie!
